a brief guide to
STORY CODES AND ABBREVIATIONS

___Confused about all those symbols that appear beside story titles on most web sites? You kinda get the M/f thingy, but if I say "M/f nc hard voy" you think Im nuts? Just read this brief guide and everything will be explained to you!... well, most of it...

___Please remember that these codes apply to spanking stories. BDSM stories and sex stories may have different symbols or different meanings, and often they do.

** Participants **

M: adult male (18+)
F: adult female (18+)
m: young male (17–)
f: young female (17–)
F+: many adult females
m+: many young males
b: young boy (12–)
g: young girl (12–)
tb (or tm): teen boy (13-19)
tg (or tf): teen girl (13-19)
X: any adult person
x: any minor

"M/f" means "one adult male spanks a young female"
"FF/m" means "two adult females spank a young male"
"F/x" means "one adult female spank an undisclosed young recipient"
"F+M/F" means "one adult male and a number of adult females spank an adult female"

Please note that I never use "b" and "g". All minors are alike in my classifications, that theyre 7 or 17 or whatnot.

** Consent **

cons: consensual spanking
semi-cons (or sc) = semi-consensual spanking
non-cons (or nc) = non-consensual spanking

This rating is very important, because not all people want to read all kinds of stories. In general, a non-cons spanking is a punishment, and a consensual spanking is erotic/for fun. The semi-cons territory is hard to define. It usually occurs when the spankee asks for one but is at the same time reluctant to get it.

A rather common theme in stories is "kid doing something on purpose to get a spanking". That is STILL non-consensual, because there exists a punishment relationship between the parent (or whatever) and the kid, and the spanking is given out of discipline on the disciplinarians end. That the spankee happens to enjoy it is purely accidental.

** Intensity **

mild
light
moderate
intense
hard
very hard
edgy
abusive

This is often omitted in story codes, but I like to use it anyway: some readers may be squicked by harder spankings, or ONLY want to read about hard spankings! To each their own. Obviously, this is only for general reference. Other adjectives may be used, but one should try and describe the objective intensity of the spanking rather than the spankers attitude (harsh, stern, strict, unforgiving, ruthless, etc.) Plus, not everyone has the same limits. Also consider that six paddle swats may be "moderate" to an adult but "very hard" to a small child.

I tend to define "mild" a spanking with the hand, maybe not even on the bare; "moderate" and "intense" bring tears but dont leave marks; any spanking with an implement I consider "hard", and if the implement is the main tool and/or bruises are left, then its "very hard". Prolonged punishment that causes hysterical crying and leaves severe marks is "edgy", especially if delivered roughly or harshly. Blood spilling, sexual harassment, beating not on the buttocks/thighs, fainting, etc. I consider "abusive". I do not write of such spankings, and when I do, it is a drama story where the authors of such beatings are morally condemned (see Tourniquet, Paper Flowers).

Of course, in real life I might come to consider "abusive" even a hand-spanking given to anyone who does not agree, does not understand, and will not benefit from it... but thats another story.

** Implements **

Hand, plastic hairbrush, wooden spoon, ping-pong paddle, ruler, slipper, leather paddle, wooden hairbrush, bath brush, wooden paddle, belt, strap, tawse, carpet beater, switch, cane, paddle with holes, birch, riding crop, martinet, flogger, cat-o-nine, Sjambok cane, whip, bullwhip... err, any missing? Im not sure. Implements arent usually mentioned in story codes, also because many stories feature more than one tool and the code would be too long.

However, if your story features a very unusual object used as a spanking implement, you might want to either mention that in the code, or better, explain in a small intro. Ive read stories with books, feather dusters, cutting boards, shoes, and even keyboards and other very weird items used for spanking!

** Position **

Generally not indicated, also because "OTK" is really the only code invented for this. If a particularly humiliating/exposing posture is a key element to the story, see below.

** Story Content **

DD = Domestic Discipline; spanking within a (married) couple; usually M/F, but can be any pairing
R/L = real life; a story based off actual experience, the authors or someone elses (also RL, r/l)
rom = romance; the romantic element is relevant in the story
public = public spanking; does not matter if in front of the family or the whole neighborhood
plot = plot development is pivotal to the story, which is not just "crime and punishment"
drama = moving, heartfelt content and/or tense situations youd see in a movie
fluff = rather pointless stuff... "I love you sweetie" "no I love you more" "no I doooo!" you get the drift
hum(our) = a somewhat comical story
serious = mature themes developed; the overall tone is quite grave
hum(il) = humiliation/belittling of the spankee is a factor
FemDom = Females dominating males
MaleDom = Males dominating females (rarely used code)
HOH = a story centred on a Head Of House figure (rarely used code).

Sci-Fi = science-fiction setting (i.e. Lurking Dragons Rejuve Universe stories, or my and Lawrences 2091)
fantasy = fantasy setting (spells, curses, wizards, etc.)
period = period setting (Medieval, Victorian, etc.)
school = schoolgirls, schoolboys, uniforms, Headmaster/mistresss office, etc.
HS = high-school setting; this code mostly belongs to sex stories
office = discipline on the workplace
spoof = not a story to be taken literally!

If you find "Debporn", the content is somehow inspired to Debbie Anns original fiction. That featured spousal or parental discipline with several BDSM elements, such as humiliation, genital spanking, and sex. Definitely not for the weak of heart (and rather disgusting to begin with, actually, but... de gustibus non disputandum est).

** Other... Activities**

sex = duh! Also found as "xxx" or simply "x"
oral, anal = duh!
sp = sexual play, that does not quite escalate into the full thing
ssp = sibling sexual play, of clear incestuous themes (rarely used code)
inc = incest themes, does not matter if involving minors or not
gay = focusing on male homosexuality
lesb = focusing on female homosexuality
teen = 18+ teen characters
young = sex with or between minors (also appears as "ped" or "pedo")
toys = dildoes, vibrators, cuffs, etc.
enema, diaper = duh
nudity = as in, "forced nudity"
sissy = sissification, forced feminization
self = masturbation (also "mast")

For stories mostly focusing on BDSM...

D/s = Dominance/submission
B/D = Bondage and Discipline
S/M = Sado-Masochism (also simply "SM")
bond = alternative for "bondage"
tort = torture
CBT = Cock-Balls Torture
foot = foot fetish
latex = latex fetish

There is a bucketload of other codes, but I have included only those that it is possible to find in a story otherwise dedicated to spanking.
